To link in with my previous post about The Posh and the community, The Posh work with the Free Kicks Foundation Charity in Peterborough, which began in 2007.
The aim of the charity is to provide football-related activities for ill, bereaved and disadvantaged children. They want to give them a day to remember with their favourite football club.
The charity is run on a voluntary basis by Steve Thorpe and Sam Downing and has taken nearly 400 deserving children and young adults to matches all over the country.
The children get the opportunity to go along to matches as Team Mascots and experience other exciting things such as: visiting the players in the dressing rooms and leading the team out ahead of kick-off. The charity is approaching its 500th kick, which is a great achievement!
Some of the Free Kicks ambassadors are Joe Lewis, George Boyd and Grant McCann.
They also hold several annual events including 5 a side tournaments, cricket matches and quiz nights.
